Jacobs named MEC’s Most Improved Player of SSBU

MOUNT VERNON – After garnering Second Team All-Midwest Esports Conference honors last block, Arjay Jacobs has collected more accolades after being named the MEC's Most Improved Player of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fall Season.
 
Multiple teams competed in NECC playoffs in the Midwest Division: Varsity and JV League of Legends, as well as Varsity Overwatch 2.

Varsity League of Legends advanced to the NECC Challengers semifinals after beating Illinois Wesleyan 2-1 in the quarterfinals. Facing unbeaten Mizzou in the semifinals the Rams lost 2-0. They then went on to beat Bradley University 2-0 in the 3rd place match. League of Legends Varsity finished 6-2 in NECC on the semester.

Varsity Overwatch 2 defeated Rogers States 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the NECC Challengers to face the University of North Dakota in the semifinals. The Rams lost to UND 3-0, then went on to fall to Mizzou in the 3rd place game.

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team competed in the Honeypot 6: Winter is Coming Tournament on Dec. 2-3. Schools involved in the tournament included St. Cloud State, Manchester, Iowa State, Missouri State, Northern Illinois, Augustana, Rutgers, Northern Iowa, Kentucky and Kansas.

The team went 2-1 in the Collegiate Crews with a win against Augustana College 2-1. Their two losses came to Manchester University, 2-0, and St. Cloud State, 2-0. In singles, Camden Bergquist finished 3-3 and Joyuse Avila-Rodriguez went 5-2.

"I'm very happy with how our teams performed this semester" said Coach Jack VonKampen. "We had a lot of strong showings vs a number of large Division 1 schools, and we will look to build on our success coming into the second semester."
