DUBUQUE – A couple extra bonus points were all the separated Cornell's wrestling team and 16th-ranked Loras in the Rams' 21-19 dual loss Thursday night inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.

The Rams (2-5) and Duhawks (2-1) won five matches apiece in a tightly-contested meet that saw the lead switch hands three times.

Smith (9-3) rallied in the third period with a takedown and two-point near fall that pushed the Rams ahead 10-8 at the halfway point of the dual.

Loras regained momentum by taking the next three matches, including a 7-4 battle at 184 between nationally-ranked wrestlers in Loras' Zeb Gnida and Cornell's No. 15 Cael McLaren (5-2).

The Rams cut into the 21-10 deficit with two wins to finish the meet. No. 17 Treyten Steffen (6-1) earned a 10-4 decision over Kam Royster, and then Cornell sophomore heavyweight Jackson Brinker recorded a quick pin in 36 seconds over Jake LaMonto.

Brinker (11-3) tallied his team-high seventh fall of the season.
