Cornell women make MWLC Tournament debut vs. St. Benedict

| By:
MOUNT VERNON – There have been many historical firsts accomplished by the Cornell women's lacrosse team this record-setting season. And now it's on to a first-ever appearance in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference Tournament.

Coach Meredith Meier's No. 4 seed Rams (10-7 overall, 4-3 MWLC) make their postseason debut Wednesday in a semifinal matchup at top-seeded Saint Benedict (10-2, 7-0 MWLC) in St. Joseph, Minn.

Game time is 5:30 p.m. at CSB Athletic Field. Fans can follow the action via live video and live stats.

Wednesday's other semifinal pits No. 3 seed Northwestern (10-5, 5-2 MWLC) at No. 2 seed Lake Forest (7-9, 6-1 MWLC). The championship game is Saturday at a time to be determined at the highest remaining seed.

The Rams have already shattered the program record for wins in a season, which was seven. Two more victories would propel them into the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Cornell has won four of its last six contests, including Saturday's 19-3 rout of Monmouth that guaranteed the ninth-year program of its first winning season.

The Rams get their second crack against St. Benedict, which prevailed 10-5 in a competitive April 22 game that Cornell trailed 5-4 at halftime. Wednesday marks the second-ever meeting between the two teams, both tournament newcomers.

Sophomore Cece Zanoni is fresh off a school-record 10-goal performance against Monmouth. She ranks second in the MWLC with 48 goals, second-most on Cornell's single-season list and only seven shy of the program record.

India Smith and Anna Methe both rank among the MWLC's top five in ground balls and caused turnovers. First-year goalie Hannah Miech (9-5) owns the school record for wins in a season. She ranks second in the league in save percentage (50.7) and has 111 total stops this spring.

St. Benedict went unbeaten in its inaugural season in the MWLC. The Bennies have lost just once since March 20.
