MOUNT VERNON – Just like that. Two races. Two school records.
Cornell junior
Ava Claussen-Tubbs got her season off to a blazing start this weekend, clocking all-time best performances at 1000 meters and 600 meters on back-to-back days.
Claussen-Tubbs became Cornell's first female runner ever to break three minutes in the 1000-meter run at Friday's Cornell Winter Classic. She crossed victorious in 2:59.60 and shattered the previous school record of 3:05.82, set by Hall of Famer Rachelle Hawkins in 2007.
Claussen-Tubbs then took down Cornell's long-standing record in the 600 at Saturday's Frigid Bee Opener in Davenport. She posted a winning time of 1:40.18, topping Thea Hoyer's 2003 record by .42 seconds.
Cornell's men and women collected 12 event titles at Friday's five-team home meet. Along with Claussen-Tubbs' triumph, the Rams picked up individual women's wins from all-American
Hailey Carolan in the high jump (5-4.50),
Willow Ziegler in the 400 (1:04.16) and
Katie Lammers in the 3000 (11:19.33).
On the men's side, senior
Fisher Isaacson won the 1000 with a swift time of 2:33.97, only two seconds shy of Aaron Stang's 1991 school record.
Isaak Hutchings was runner-up in 2:38.25.
Michael Bahu took first in the shot put (40-11.50) and second in the weight throw (50-4). Sophomore
