DUBUQUE – Cornell's women were led by a strong showing from the 3000-meter runners, as they finished second of 11 teams with 83 points on Saturday at the Spartan Shootout inside the University of Dubuque-Chlapathy Rec Center.
Carley Seeley led the five Cornell runners in the 3000-meter run finishing second in a time of 11:10.45. Seeley received 10 first place points for the event, as the first place finisher in the event was running unattached.
Seeley's finish highlighted a 28-point performance by Cornell's group of 3000 runners.
Katie Lammers crossed third (11:30.52),
Mackenzie Engbert fifth (11:37.40),
Sophie Stumbo sixth (11:40.02) and
Zoe Peesel ninth (11:50.75).
Hailey Carolan had another solid day for the women, placing first in the high jump (5-3) and second in the 60 hurdles (9.81). Carolan also was the leadoff leg of the 4x400 relay that finished second in 4:17.66. Relay members included
Alyza Koppes,
Jillian Shriver and
Ava Claussen-Tubbs.
Koppes added a title in the mile (5:28.61) and Claussen-Tubbs finished first in the 400 (1:00.69).
Lidia Dahlman placed third in the mile (5:31.84).
Cornell's men finished fourth in the nine-team field with 47 points. The men were led by three runner-up event finishes.
Chase Staker finished second in the 400 race with a time of 51.13. In the mile,
Fisher Isaacson took second in 4:23.38.
Gabe Soda ran 8:42.17 for second place in the 3000.
