GRINNELL – The Rams set two more records this weekend as they continue to rewrite the indoor track and field record books.
Jensen Meeker set the school indoor 200-meter record at Saturday's Darren Young Classic, while
Isaac vanWestrienen broke his own school record in the 5000 meters at Friday's Midwest Elite Invitational in Whitewater, Wis.
Meeker crossed the finish line in the 200 with a winning time of 22.44, taking down Husani Newbold's record set in 2018 by .02 seconds. Meeker now holds the school indoor records in the 200 and 400. He was also was part of the 4x400 relay that set the indoor record last week in Waverly.
VanWestrienen participated in the Midwest Elite Invitational to test himself against some of the best 5000-meter runners in the country. He broke his own school record set in 2024 by nine seconds, crossing the finish line in 14:00.49. VanWestrienen finished third against a very strong field of runners that included three indoor All-American's from last year.
VanWestrienen's clocking is the third fastest in NCAA Division III this year and he now ranks No. 11 on the Division III all-time list in the 5000. The junior holds three individual indoor school records (mile, 3000, 5000) and is also part of the record-setting distance medley relay.
Cornell's men finished fifth at Grinnell with 58 points.
Chase Staker ran a very good race in the 400, posting a winning time in 50.71. Cornell's distance medley team of
Caleb Long,
Jamie Briggs, Tony Zamudio and
Annan Weiland took second in 11:50.21.
The Rams received third-place finishes from
Hadley Beaty in the 60 (7.06),
Gabe Hunt in the 800 (1:59.49) and the distance medley 'B' team of
Ethyn Chesnut,
Owen Vaughan-Fier,
Anders Mork and
Jaxon Barnes (11:57.41).
Cornell's women had a productive outing at Grinnell with three event titles. The Rams placed sixth as a team.
Alyza Koppes ran Friday night, getting the Rams started with a first-place finish in the 5000 with a time of 18:15.97.
On Saturday, the Rams received first-place finishes from
Ava Claussen-Tubbs in the 400 (1:00.27) and the distance medley of Claussen-Tubbs,
Lidia Dahlman,
Murray Page and
Katie Lammers with a time of 13:35.70.
Mackenzie Engbert finished third in the 3000 (11:21.43)
