MONMOUTH, Ill. – Cornell's sprint medley relay shaved three seconds off its school record and repeated as event champions during Friday's opening day of the Midwest Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships inside the Huff Athletic Center.
Junior
Ava Claussen-Tubbs anchored the sprint medley to victory for the second consecutive year, crossing the line in 4:13.57 for a decisive six-second win over runner-up Ripon. Cornell's quartet included freshman
Alexa Hugart, junior
Hailey Carolan and sophomore
Willow Ziegler.
Alyza Koppes posted a runner-up finish in the 5000 to secure her sixth all-conference track medal. The junior was clocked in 18:25.61, nine seconds behind the winning pace.
Cornell's 4x200 relay of Ziegler, Hugart,
Sia Bear and anchor Carolan placed sixth in 1:50.75. The Rams also scored in the mile with freshman
Lidia Dahlman taking seventh (5:25.53).
The Rams stand fifth in the team race with 23 points through six scored events. The Championships resume at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
