WAVERLY – Cornell's men ran their way into the record books, setting three indoor school records at the Friday Knight Lights hosted by Wartburg inside the Hoover Field House and Indoor Track.
Isaac vanWestrienen started off the record-setting night in the mile with a new standard time of 4:07.52, which ranks fourth nationally in NCAA Division III. The record was previously held by Kirkwood Donavin (2011) in 4:11.02. VanWestrienen's mark also broke the meet record of 4:12.49 (Sam Schmitz, Wartburg) and facility record of 4:09.45 (Gabe Nichols, Carleton).
Not to be outdone,
Jensen Meeker followed by breaking the school record in the 400 meters with a swift time of 49.84. Meeker's finish broke the program's long-standing record of 50.30 held by Jeff Kapler (1992). Meeker also set the meet record which was 51.21, held by Ian Neyens (Wartburg).
Chase Staker finished runner-up with a time of 51.22 and
Jaxin McGuire fifth in 51.69.
The Rams finished off the night by breaking the school record in the 4x400 relay, crossing fourth against a very strong field. The team of Staker, McGuire,
Currey Jacobs and Meeker put up a time of 3:23.17, shattering the previous record of 3:25.50 set in 2018 by Husani Newbold, Albert Lopez, Ethan Berube and Blake MacDowell.
Hadley Beaty in the 200 (22.64) and
Fisher Isaacson in the 800 (1:56.39) had strong showings for the Rams, finishing fifth in their respective races.
Cornell's women were led by fourth-place finishes from
Hailey Carolan in the 60 hurdles (9.79) and
Ava Claussen-Tubbs in the 800 (2:18.88).
