No. 3 seed Rams face Lake Forest in MWC Tournament

MOUNT VERNON – Fourth-year coach Trent Schneider's Rams have earned the No. 3 seed in the Midwest Conference Men's Tennis Team Automatic Qualifying Tournament, kicking off a three-day Championships weekend at Nielsen Tennis Stadium, on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. 
 
Cornell (4-2 MWC) faces No. 2 seed Lake Forest (5-1 MWC) in a semifinal dual at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Top-seeded and 20-time defending champion Grinnell (6-0 MWC) plays Illinois College (3-3 MWC) in Friday's other semifinal.
 
The semifinal winners meet in the championship Friday afternoon for the MWC's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
 
The Rams qualified for the MWC Tournament for the sixth consecutive season it has been contested. This is Cornell's third straight appearance as the No. 3 seed. 
 
Cornell (16-8 overall) closed out the regular season winning 7-0 over Ripon, and a 5-2 decision of Lawrence this past weekend. The Rams dropped a 7-0 decision to Lake Forest on April 12.
 
Fans can follow live scoring for all three duals Friday.
 
The MWC Individual Championships get underway at 9 a.m. Saturday with two rounds of singles and one round of doubles. The Championships resume at 9 a.m. Sunday. Live scoring is available for all individual matches.  
 
Cornell's individuals are seeded No. 3 in three of the singles flights, and the top two doubles flights. All other entries are seeded No. 4 for the Rams. The Rams' are led by sophomores Trent Devore and Mills Arnold at the No. 1 bracket, where the duo posted a 4-1 record in MWC play, as well as a 17-6 mark overall together. Devore is in the No. 1 singles bracket, while Arnold is in the No. 4 field. 
  
Cornell rounds out its singles entries with Zachary Ong at No. 2, Drew Campbell at No. 3, Edwin Holyoake at No. 5, and Sam Cumicek at No. 6. Holyoake, Cumicek are seeded third in their respective brackets, along with Arnold.

Ong/Cumicek are paired at No. 2, while Campbell and August Krahn team up at No. 3. Both duos are 4-1 in conference play, highlighted by a win over Lake Forest at No. 3 in the dual meet by Campbell/Krahn. 

This past weekend, Ong reached the 90 career wins milestone, and currently sits tied for 10th all time.
