Box Score 2 Grinnell – Cornell Softball traveled to Grinnell Saturday to take on the Pioneer's. The Rams came away with a doubleheader split, falling in game one 2-3 in eight innings and taking game two 6-5.
The Rams (12-19, 4-8 MWC) tied up game one in the fourth on runs by
Peyton Souhrada and
Izzy Gullixon. The game remained 2-2, until the Pioneers scored the winning run with one out in the eighth.
The Rams out hit Grinnell (10-24, 7-5 MWC) 11-to-7 in game one.
Elise Oleson had three hits for the Rams.
Addie Bowman, Souhrada and
Lilly Dierkes each had two hits. Dierkes added two RBIs.
Corrin Kennedy tripled for the Cornell.
Lexi Ellermeier pitched a complete game, giving up one earned run on seven hits in the loss.
In game two, the Rams took control early scoring three in the first.
Peyton Souhrada doubled to left center scoring
Alexa Corona and
Lilly Dierkes plated two with a double to right center.
The Rams added three in the fourth. Kennedy scored on
Brooke Furman's ground out to the pitcher. Corona singled home
Charlotte Alexander and
Elise Oleson singled home Corona to round out the scoring for Cornell.
Corrin Kennedy led the Rams with three hits, including two triples. Corona, Souhrada and Dierkes each added two hits.
Hannah Rhoades picked up the win in game two, throwing 5.1 innings. Rhoades gave up five earned runs on eight hits.
Holly Kremer picked up the save, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings to finish the game.
Coming up – Cornell returns home tomorrow to face Monmouth in a MWC doubleheader. Game one starts at 1:00 p.m. at Van Metre Family Softball Field.
