Alyza Koppes and sophomore
Carley Seeley recorded top-25 performances to lead Cornell's No. 6 regionally-ranked women's cross country team at Saturday's 63rd Annual Les Duke Invitational at Grinnell Golf Course.
Koppes was Cornell's front runner, covering the 6K trail in 25:24 for 17th place out of 89 total finishers. Seeley also ran a solid race in 23rd place and was clocked in 25:45.
Cornell's next three scorers all broke 27 minutes with
Zoe Peesel taking 33rd (26:15),
Sophie Stumbo 35th (26:24) and first-year
Gretchyn Fairlie 40th (26:56).
The Rams tallied 111 points and finished fourth in the nine-team field.
No. 4 regionally-ranked Central claimed the team title with 22 points, followed by Midwest Conference preseason favorite Grinnell in second with 33.
Coach
Jerry Frawley's Rams, who won the Bob Schultz Invitational Aug. 29, did not field a full lineup in Saturday's first 6K competition of the fall.
Central's Maddy Stevens raced to the individual title in 23:23.
Coming up – Cornell travels to Wheaton, Ill., on Saturday, Sept. 20 for the Gil Dodds Invitational.
