WHEATON, Ill. – Cornell's women beat a pair of regionally-ranked teams during a strong showing at Saturday's Gil Dodds Invitational, hosted by Wheaton College.
Coach
Jerry Frawley's No. 10 regionally-ranked Rams placed third in the 18-team meet with 106 points, edging Kalamazoo by four. Cornell also finished ahead of Wheaton (152 points) and Aurora (188), ranked seventh and eighth, respectively, in the Midwest Region.
No. 3 nationally-ranked Chicago posted a winning team score of 17 points, followed by DePauw with 78.
The Rams placed three runners in the top 20, led by an impressive sixth-place effort from
Lidia Dahlman. The sophomore crushed her previous-best 6K mark with a time of 22:35 at St. James Park. The deep field featured 222 finishers.
Seniors
Alyza Koppes and
Mackenzie Engbert also ran well for the Rams. Koppes crossed 17th in 23:03. Engbert finished 20th in 23:12.
Ava Claussen-Tubbs placed 36th (23:55) in her first collegiate 6K race.
Carley Seeley brought in Cornell's fifth score, taking 48th in 24:19.
Zoe Peesel (25:07) and
Sophie Stumbo (25:14) both finished in the top half of the field, placing 80th and 85th, respectively.
Chicago landed the top four individual finishers, led by Katja Dunayevich's winning time of 21:38.
Coming up – The Rams return to competition Oct. 4 at Wartburg's Dan Huston Invitational in Waverly.
