MOUNT VERNON – Cornell junior first baseman/outfielder
Caleb Smith and senior pitcher
Nate Pacetti have been honored on the
2026 All-Midwest Conference Baseball Second Team, as announced Thursday by the MWC office.
Smith, who had no collegiate at-bats prior to this season, made an impact in the heart of Cornell's batting lineup. He led the Rams in batting average (.379), hits (44), slugging percentage (.474) and on-base percentage (.482). The No. 3 hitter totaled 21 runs, eight doubles and 23 RBIs while drawing 23 walks.
Smith ranked fourth in the MWC in on-base percentage and ninth in batting average. He had 12 multi-hit games and hit safely in 13 of his final 14 contests. Smith batted .403 in conference play.
Pacetti, who pitched only 2.0 innings prior to 2026, emerged as a key piece in Cornell's starting rotation. The right-hander finished 4-4 on the mound with a 5.18 earned run average and 46 strikeouts over 57.1 innings.
Opponents batted just .244 against Pacetti, who fired two complete games in 10 starts – both team-highs. Pacetti was named MWC Pitcher of the Week after a 10-strikeout, complete-game effort in a win over Monmouth April 18.
Coach
Robbie Dombrowski's young Rams finished 17-21 overall and tied for fifth place in the MWC at 9-12.
