MOUNT VERNON – Cornell College has named
Colin Konicek as interim head baseball coach for the 2026-27 season, it was announced by Director of Athletics Jeff Meeker.
A 2023 Cornell graduate, Konicek returned to his alma mater this past season as an assistant on the Rams' baseball staff. The West Dundee, Ill., native was a four-year member on Cornell's baseball team.
Konicek started 74 games over his final two seasons, including all 40 contests at catcher his senior year.
"We are lucky to have Colin here at Cornell and believe he will do an outstanding job leading our program," Meeker said. "Colin was an outstanding student-athlete here and an excellent assistant coach. Colin bleeds purple and is the right person to lead our team forward."
Konicek played a key role in forming this year's 22-man incoming recruiting class. He takes over the head coaching position for Robbie Dombrowski, who stepped down after four seasons at the helm.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to work for a place that meant so much to me as a student-athlete," Konicek said. "It's always been a goal to come back to Cornell and be the head coach. I have a great connection here and want to provide the same experiences to our current and prospective student-athletes."
Cornell's young 2026 squad finished 17-21 overall and placed fifth in the Midwest Conference.
"I'm excited about the guys on our roster and look forward to developing them as student-athletes," Konicek said. "We're going to build off the foundation we set last year."
Prior to his return to the Hilltop, Konicek was a graduate assistant coach at NCAA Division II Southwest Minnesota State University and spent the 2025 summer as head coach of the Omaha Filthballers in the Corn Belt League.
Konicek served as Director of Baseball Operations at Division I Utah Valley University during the 2023-24 season. He held high school coaching roles as an assistant at Pleasant Valley (2023-24) and Mount Vernon (2022).
Konicek graduated from Cornell with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology.
