First-teamer Archer heads three All-MWC men's soccer selections

| By:
MOUNT VERNON – Cornell landed three players on the All-Midwest Conference Men's Soccer Teams, headlined by first team selection George Archer.

Archer, a sophomore attacker, was voted to the league's 11-player top unit for the second year in a row. He's the first Ram to gain first team honors in consecutive seasons since 1990-91 (Mario Robles).

Senior defender Cian McNamara and sophomore attacker Aidan Lerch represented Cornell on the second team.

Archer, the 2021 MWC Newcomer of the Year, led the conference in points (31) and goals scored (12). He put up the third-highest season points total in program history. Archer converted all five of his penalty kick chances this fall.

Archer ranked No. 2 in the MWC in assists (seven) and shots (50), while standing No. 5 in shots on goal (23). The two-time MWC Offensive Performer of the Week scored six goals over his final four league matches.

Lerch made an impact in his first season with the Rams, tying for the MWC lead with three game-winning goals. He finished second on the team in scoring with 13 points, netting five goals with three assists. Lerch converted 65.2 percent of his shots on goal.

The 6-foot-2 McNamara played a key role on a Cornell defense that pitched two shutouts, including a 0-0 tie on the road against MWC Tournament champion Lake Forest. McNamara also delivered four goals on 18 shot attempts this season.

The Rams finished 8-6-3 overall, 3-3-2 in the MWC under head coach Nate Grosse.
