Cornell secures 20-win season, series sweep over Knox

| By:
Box Score GALESBURG, Ill. – The Rams are hitting their stride at just the right time, reeling off their seventh consecutive victory Sunday with a 13-3 seven-inning Midwest Conference baseball rout at Knox.

Cornell (20-15 overall, 11-10 MWC) completed a lopsided series sweep over the Prairie Fire, which included wins Saturday by 16-5 and 9-3 margins. The Rams have now outscored their last seven opponents, 71-18.

Coach Robbie Dombrowski's Rams secured the team's second straight 20-win season and took another step closer to an MWC Tournament berth. The team stands fourth in the MWC race with a three-game set remaining next weekend at second-place Chicago.

The Rams raced to an early 9-0 lead Sunday, capped by Colin Whelan's three-run homer, his second of the season and the team's 26th.

Vince Zipperer led Cornell's 12-hit attack, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Cade Parks doubled twice and scored three times. Sean Alvarez went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Ryan Weaver added two hits and two runs scored.

Right-hander Vince Tinajero improved his perfect pitching record to 4-0, working two innings in relief. He has yet to allow a run in 16.2 innings this spring. Starter Cameron Anderson allowed just one run over three innings, striking out four.

Coming up – The Rams step outside the conference Tuesday for the home finale at 5 p.m. against Simpson at Ash Park Field.
